March 5, 2017

Hello everyone. It’s been an exciting week so far with our newly elected President delivering the State of the Union to a joint session of congress. Our President Trump delivered an amazing speech! I’m so happy he addressed congress with a uniting message of hope, optimism and love of our country while millions of people watched nationwide.

It’s been a busy last few weeks since my last update. On January 25th, I had the chance to attend the Sanilac County meeting as well as attended a Win with Weiser unity event in Macomb County. Both meetings were exceptional, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to join in the fun.

On January 31st, I was asked to speak to the MSU College Republicans. It’s such a blessing to get the chance to talk to a group of young, interested and active young adults that want to get more involved in politics. Through talking with these ambitious young republicans, I not only inspired the youth to engage more with our party movement, but also volunteer and help at the State Convention.

The next few weeks were incredibly busy for myself as well as the Michigan Republican Party. On February 10th, I participated in an interview on the Frank Beckman show, right before I left for our State Convention.

It was a tad bittersweet to bid farewell and thank our Chairwoman, Ronna Romney McDaniel and Co-Chair Jeff Sakwa. I’m so proud of them for everything that they’ve done for this party and all the new opportunities that they’ll succeed in. Together, they’ve shown great leadership in the face of adversity and for that I will personally be forever grateful. It was also fabulous to see Ronna post the following picture with the caption, “Jackson Michigan restored to its rightful place at the RNC.”

Additionally, I am very happy to welcome our newly elected leadership of the Michigan Republican Party – Chairman, Ambassador Ron Weiser and Co-Chair Amanda Van Essen Wirth.  We are blessed to have the talent and experience this team brings to our party moving forward.

During our State Convention, we also had elections for the Vice Chairs of our state party. We have so much talent elected to the chairs position. Below is a list of the newly elected Vice Chairs of the Michigan Republican Party:
Administration – Gerry Hildenbrand
Coalitions – Kevin Tatulyan
Ethnic – Terris Todd
Grassroots – Mark Gurley
Outreach – Benjamin Soltis
Youth – Michael Banerian

I want to congratulate all who ran for office and thank everyone for stepping up to give of your time and talent to ensure that we have great leaders moving forward!

I also want to thank our MRP staff for all their work behind the scenes that have allowed for our convention to run smoothly, and I’m also excited about the new Chief of Staff, Colleen Pero.

Finally, on February 27th I attended the Energy, Catalyst Conference put on by Michigan Conservative Energy Forum in Lansing. I had the honor of listening to the  Michigan House of Representative Energy Committee Chair Gary Glenn as the keynote speaker. It was a great event and thoroughly informative for all those that attended.

I want to once again thank you all for your involvement in our Republican Party and I look forward to seeing you on the road!

Blessings,
Kathy Berden-RNC

January 29, 2017

What an exciting start to the year for the Republican Party! We officially have our newly elected President, Donald J. Trump, and Vice-President, Mike Pence, as the fearless leaders of our democracy.

I’ve been so busy these last few weeks attending events that will be talked about for years to come. One of these events was December 19th when the electoral college cast their ballots for Donald J. Trump. This was the first time in 28 years that the state of Michigan has been able to cast its electoral votes for a Republican. After that momentous occasion, I had the chance to do a radio interview on the CL Lewis show on December 20th.

That was the same day that I went to the swearing in ceremony for Sanilac County Elected Officials. What an exciting day that was for my community.

As for other events that I’ve attended, I spoke at the 4th District Roundup on January 6-7th in Clare, Michigan. It was an honor to interact with all the state legislators and candidates that attended that event! Kudos to District Chair Judy Rapanos.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend many inaugural events down in Washington, DC. It was a packed week of incredible ceremonies with the main event being the RNC meeting where our MIGOP Chair, Ronna Romney McDaniel, was elected as Chairwoman of the RNC!

The beginning of my week was packed with events and opportunities to meet all the good people of Washington, DC. While down there I attended various committee meetings, along with festive after-hours receptions and several meet and greets.

The best part of the trip was the General Session of the RNC where the new leadership of the RNC was elected. At the RNC meeting I had the honor of leading the prayer and reading a seconding speech on behalf of our Chair, Ronna Romney McDaniel. I’m so very proud to have had the ability to vote unanimously with the RNC delegation to have Ronna elected as RNC Chairwoman.

It was an incredible moment to play a role in the election of Ronna Romney McDaniel as the RNC Chairwoman. Additionally, it was great to aid in the election of the Co-Chair Bob Paduchik. These two people worked tirelessly to make sure that President Trump would win their respective states.

Together, these two representatives will achieve greatness as they lead the RNC. I’m so happy for both of them and I can’t wait to see what they do over these next few years.

Overall I’m very grateful that I had the ability to attend the election of the RNC chairperson as well as attend the swearing in ceremony for the President of the United States. I’m so glad that we can finally be at ease with the peaceful transition of power to the new administration. I thoroughly enjoyed President Trump’s inauguration speech. I know that he will do right for our country. With Donald J. Trump as the head of our nation, we will achieve greatness and construct a nation represented by the people and for the people. As Donald Trump says, we will “transfer power from Washington, DC – back to the people!”

After the inauguration I attended two Balls, the Presidential Freedom Ball and our own Michigan Ball. I thoroughly enjoyed the Michigan Ball where I had the opportunity to dance the night away with our wonderful Michiganders.

I think we will have an amazing four years ahead of us and I can’t wait to see what our newly elected President does for this country! I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming MRP Convention in Lansing on February 10-11th.

December 18, 2016

Merry Christmas all!

I want to start with the happy news and congratulations to our Chairwoman, Ronna Romney McDaniel, for the announcement of her as Deputy Chair for the RNC!

There is no doubt of Ronna’s qualifications that have led to this great honor! She worked tirelessly this past election cycle and has the talent, passion, and commitment to use her leadership for all our states. As Michigan’s Republican National Committeewoman, I will be proud to cast my vote for her at the RNC meeting in January.

On November 17th. I attended my County Convention and and happy to continue as a member of our executive committee.

After Thanksgiving, I traveled to see my Mom in Greenville, S.C. While there, she ended up in the hospital for pneumonia. Thank you for many who sent prayers for her. She was released a few days ago. Also during that time, the Jill Stein recount started and I thank all our great people who stepped up quickly to defend our electoral votes! I arrived home a few days before the recount in my county was scheduled to start, and the recount was thankfully ended before my county started. We celebrated across the state that it was at an end.

I did a radio interview on the CL Lewis show on Dec. 6th and then bad weather ended my trip to our State Committee meeting. I turned home after an hour and a half on the road.

We have had a loss of one of our political family members, State Committee Member, Bob Paszko, please keep his wife, Sherry and family in your prayers. His warm smile and dedication to our party will be so missed.

May God Bless you all. We have much to be thankful for. I look forward to 2017 and seeing you all in the new year!

The Recount is over
Thank you to the thousands of Michiganders who helped defend our victory from Jill Stein’s ridiculous recount. This is a victory for the taxpayers and voters of Michigan who can be assured that their vote will count when Michigan’s electors meet tomorrow. The courts have affirmed the stance the campaign has maintained from day one: Jill Stein, who received only 1.07% of the vote in Michigan, is not legally entitled to hijack the will of voters and drag them into an arduous and expensive publicity stunt. Jill Stein’s 1% temper tantrum cost Michigan taxpayers millions of dollars and would have cost them additional millions of dollars if not for the actions of President-elect Trump, the Michigan Republican Party, and Attorney General Bill Schuette.

November 20, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving to our entire political family!

I am elated at the wonderful outcome of the election! Michigan out-performed this year in all of the statewide races including, State House seats, state Supreme Court seats, Education Board seats and, of course, we helped Donald Trump take back the White House! After a long 28 years, Michigan finally turned red for a Presidential candidate! I want to thank everyone who played an important role in this momentous occasion. Congratulations are in order for all of our grassroots support, our volunteers, all of our local and statewide candidates, Team Trump, MRP staff, and, of course, our Chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel.

With all of this excitement, I’ve been hard at work attending so many great events throughout Michigan! The last weekend in October was a busy one for me! On October 24, I had the opportunity to sit on a panel run by the College Republicans at Oakland University. It was quite the honor to be present in front of so many young Republicans. That following Saturday, October 29, I had the opportunity to speak at the Lapeer Fall Fundraiser. It’s always a great honor to be asked to present at local community events! Following that busy weekend on October 31, I attended the Trump Rally at Macomb Community College. It was such an amazing rally. The supporters were ecstatic for the chance to vote in our president.

On November 2, I was hard at work promoting our important races within the state. I was asked to speak at the St. Clair Victory Rally and had the opportunity to do a radio interview on the CL Bryant show that evening. Both of which were great opportunities to get the word out about all the hard work and progress that we were making in the great state of Michigan!

The weekend before the election was an important one. I had the opportunity to participate in the “Protect Our Comeback Tour” organized by the Michigan Republican Party. It was such an amazing and worthwhile experience to be one of the participants on the MRP Bus Tour. I enjoyed engaging with everyone and promoting the upcoming election. We were so warmly greeted at every stop and you could feel the excitement and energy of our supporters statewide!

On election night, I had the honor of being on the CL Bryant radio show. Afterwards, I attended the Victory party for the 10th district with our congressional candidate Paul Mitchell. It was such a rewarding night to celebrate a win for not only Paul, but also for our entire ticket.

This past week, I’ve continued to work hard on the campaign trail. On November 15, I was again featured on a radio interview with CL Bryant and on Thursday, November 16th, I attended the Sanilac County Republican Party monthly meeting which was also our County Convention. In addition to my role as Michigan’s National Committeewoman, I’m proud to serve on my county executive committee.

It has been such an honor to meet and chat with all of our members, you have made this opportunity worthwhile. I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy this special time to reunite with your family and friends!

Breaking the Glass Ceiling
It’s been a great election season this year! Michigan had the opportunity to play a role in one of the most heated elections in history. Additionally, we’ve made huge strides nationally with the success of Kellyanne Conway. Kellyanne made history this election cycle by becoming the first woman to successfully run a presidential campaign! Kellyanne has broken the glass ceiling and set an example for women and girls everywhere. I want to congratulate Kellyanne for her superior win and for breaking the glass ceiling!

At the state level, Michigan has made strides in increasing women elected to the Legislature. Since 2014, we’ve experience a 60% growth of elected women. What an amazing feat! In more exciting news, Laura Cox will be our first woman legislator to chair the House Appropriations Committee. It’s an amazing accomplishment and I want to personally congratulate Laura on her achievement. With our other races, we were also successful in adding a conservative woman’s voice to the State Board of Education. Nikki Snyder will be a great addition, and will bring great success to the board for years to come.

Additionally, I want to thank all the women who have helped during this cycle. We couldn’t have done any of this without you. As women, we have shown our commitment to the State of Michigan. We are not a special interest group or a group that is only focused on single issues. We are 55% of this nation that cares about the future of our country. As a group, we sought out to make a difference in our Legislature by bringing more women into power. This has been a grand feat and all of us should be so proud.

Congratulations again to Kellyanne Conway and all the women who participated in this election cycle. Together, we’ve helped to show that all women matter in this political sphere. We are a force to be reckon with and a force that isn’t going away any time soon!

October 23, 2016

Hello everyone-

I’ve noticed throughout my recent travels that the momentum for our Republican candidates and our Presidential nominee Donald Trump is growing. We must continue with this excitement as the days near our November 8 victory!

Over these past few months I’ve been consumed with all of our great events happening in the mitten! On September 19 and 20, I had the honor of attending the “All Issues Are Women’s Issues” panel featuring our special guest, Carly Fiorina. I had the opportunity to meet with many young women and men over the two days of the event. It was a great opportunity to hear from so many incredible women role models who have paved the way for women in the Republican Party.

By the end of the month I had visited many local Republican headquarters and attended many debate-watch parties. One of the more memorable debate watch party occurred in my home county of Sanilac. I was impressed with the massive support and excitement for the future of our nation at the Sanilac county debate watch party.

Before reaching Grand Rapids for a luncheon in support of Donald Trump, I had the pleasure of touring the Lansing Trump office. It was great to see all of the hard work being done in support of our candidate! While I was there I picked up 500 signs to bring with me to the following event to help encourage volunteer engagement for our election season. The following day, I joined our Chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel, at an open house in Utica. I couldn’t believe that the 500 signs I brought from Lansing were gone in a span of two hours! I’m glad that so many people are excited about this election and are willing to help at any capacity they can!

On another exciting note, I received the honor of being named Co-Chair for the Michigan Women for Trump! It was great to meet and speak with so many enthusiastic grassroots activists and citizens that are so concerned for the future of our country.

This past weekend was one of my busiest yet! On October 16, I spoke to residents of Traverse City on behalf of one of the most promising candidates for Congress, Lieutenant General Jack Bergman. A few days later on October 17, I attended Macomb County’s Lincoln Day Dinner with keynote speaker Governor Mike Pence, our Vice Presidential Candidate. The sold out crowd was so enthusiastic and grateful to hear from Governor Pence, who will be our next Vice President. Many enjoyed his inspirational rhetoric as it aimed to unite us in our mission to win back the White House.
berden-pence
On October 20, I spoke at the Clinton County Republican Party Fall Fest in St. John’s, Michigan. The following day I was able to attend the 13th District Victory Reception. What a terrific time with all of our grassroots supporters.

We are a mere 16 days away from Election Day and there’s so much we can still do! Thank you so much for all the time you have put into this election, with all of our efforts we can claim a victory on November 8!

Protect the Integrity of our Elections
An integral part of our plan to win in November will be our efforts to mobilize and turn out our voters on Election Day. In order to win on Election Day, we need your help.

The need for help on Election Day is great. We need lawyers across the state, poll challengers in target precincts, and volunteers to knock the doors and make phone calls that will lead our candidates to victory on Election Day. Visit migop.org/edo to sign up today, and please encourage three volunteers to do the same.

This operation will help us ensure the integrity of the election process while also helping us get Republican voters to the poll to support Donald Trump and the rest of our amazing ticket. Please consider signing up for a shift. Thank you!

Hello everyone,

kathy-trumpThe busy and exciting election season is in full swing, and we need your support to keep our candidates and conservative message out front.
I was lucky enough to attend the Donald Trump rally in Dimondale, where I was blessed to get a brief meeting and photo with our great nominee.

At the always wonderful Sanilac County Fair, my home fair, our Republican booth was a tremendous success. I had the privilege of working at the booth for the first two days, which had a special appearance from our nominee, even if it was in cardboard format. Still, he was gracious enough to pose for photos with his adoring public at the fair. What an incredible time!

On August 26 and 27, the many amazing people who make Michigan’s Republican Party so great were on hand in Grand Rapids for our State Convention. I had the honor of giving the nominating speech for two of our outstanding candidates for statewide education seats. I congratulate everyone who won their races, and I hope everyone who ran will continue their excellent work and efforts to make this state a better place for our kids and grandkids. I look forward to working with everyone through the November general election.

ronna-kathyOn August 30, grassroots conservatives and leaders across the state participated in Trump Flash Mobs. I was at the Saginaw event with Amy Carl and team captain Debra Babcock Mantey. We were joined by nearly 60 enthusiastic supporters, and were treated wonderfully by passing traffic, with a number of honks and thumbs ups from drivers. This was a wonderful event organized by dedicated supporters of our nominee, and we need to keep up this level of dedication to elect Republicans up-and-down the ballot in Michigan.

Along with several campaign kick-offs for our candidates, I was at the Gladwin Steak Fry on September 9 with Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel. I’d like to thank all who attended and gave us such a warm welcome. It’s nice to see so many friendly and happy faces working so hard to help elect Republicans and spread our message. I’m thankful to Linda and Don Birgel for putting on this event. They’ve been a great team and have worked so hard to put on this tremendous event for so many years!

I had a great time at our Attorney General Bill Schuette’s Barbeque on September 12 in Midland with Chairman McDaniel. As always, the music and food were great, and there were so many wonderful Republicans in attendance here. Always great to see!

Thank you so much for all that you do to make the Michigan Republican Party the best statewide Republican Party in the country!

Carly Fiorina coming to Michigan
I’m excited to promote a great series featuring our wonderful Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel and former Presidential Candidate Carly Fiorina tomorrow and Tuesday.

Far too often, women are portrayed as single-issue voters by Democrats. As a mother and strong Republican, I feel this kind of language minimizes what I truly care about. All issues are women’s issues, and we’re focused on all of the problems facing our nation. This is about the future we’ll leave behind for our kids and grandkids. The economy and national security, to name two, are going to determine whether they have the opportunity to be better off than we are. That’s part of what makes these forums such a great event. We can make sure everyone knows we’re not single issue voters, but people who are truly concerned about our future and the kind of world we’re leaving for the future of those we love so deeply.

Join us on Monday, September 19 or Tuesday, September 20 for these great forums that will highlight how women are more than just single issue voters.

Tickets for these events are $50 each. The event on September 19 will take place at the Sheraton Detroit Novi on Haggerty Road in Novi, with a VIP Reception at 10:30 am and the discussion panel taking place at 11 am. The event on September 20 will take place at the Marriott on M.A.C. Avenue in East Lansing, with a VIP Reception at 8:30 am and the discussion panel taking place at 9 am. Visit migop.org to RSVP for the panel discussion or contact lbosler@migop.org to join the event committee.

Sign up to volunteer for our next Day of Action
Yesterday was a successful Day of Action across the state! With volunteers and staff knocking in an effort to Make America Great Again and protect Our Comeback, more Republican voters were identified than ever before in one push! This is incredible, and I’m so proud of all of our dedicated and enthusiastic staff and volunteers for making this day such a success.

I can’t stress enough how important these days are, as we work tirelessly to turn out the vote for Republicans up and down the ballot, but I will try. They are vital to our success here in Michigan!

It’s great to see all of the enthusiasm from Republicans here in Michigan, as our volunteers mobilized in their neighborhoods and reach thousands of voters. This is a tremendous sign for our prospects in November, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone’s effort.

I feel certain that we’ll continue to show our strength in numbers as our team works toward hitting the goal of 1 million doors knocked by the general election.

Thanks to the tireless enthusiasm and hard work of our dedicated and highly motivated grassroots volunteers, we’ve knocked on over 250,000 doors so far this cycle, more than a quarter of the way to our goal. Let’s keep this momentum going!

To continue our success, we need your help. Please join the thousands of Michiganders who signed up today at migop.org/volunteer. Your time and energy will be greatly appreciated as we work to protect Michigan’s Comeback in November and elect strong Republican leadership up and down the ballot.

Remember Representative Peter Pettalia
Tragedy has befallen many Northern Michiganders this week due to the sudden loss of Representative Peter Pettalia. Pettalia was a tremendous advocate for Northern Michigan, working tirelessly in the Michigan House to spread the word about everything his district had to offer. Many touching and heartbreaking tributes have been pouring in from those who knew him as a kind and fun-loving man.

He was also a dedicated public servant and offered the people he served a strong and thoughtful advocate for their causes in Lansing. The impact his service has had on our state has helped keep our Comeback going strong, and we’re forever grateful for all the wonderful things he did during his far too brief time on earth.

My thoughts, prayers, and sympathies go out to his wife Karen, his children, and grandchildren during this incredibly difficult time. I know this offers little solace to his family and loved ones, but the state is truly a better place because of Representative Pettalia, and we should all be so grateful for everything he accomplished during his time serving the public.

August 21, 2016

Hello everyone,

It’s been an incredibly busy time for me since my last update.

I attended the RNC Summer Meeting in Cleveland July 12 through 16 in advance of the Republican National Convention. Following the meeting, I was honored to spend a wonderful week with Michigan’s fantastic delegation!

I’m so thankful for the warm welcome we received from the people of Cleveland and all the hard work law enforcement officers did to ensure our protection! These brave men and women not only kept us safe, but provided us with much-needed peace of mind while at the Convention.

Each day started with outstanding breakfast briefings featuring some great guest speakers, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and Ohio Governor John Kasich. Our own Michigan leadership also addressed us and hosted various receptions, including our State Party Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel, Co-Chair Jeff Sakwa, Attorney General Bill Schuette, Governor Rick Snyder, Lt. Governor Brian Calley, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, House Speaker Kevin Cotter, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, and Congressman John Moolenar.

It was a wonderful experience to be part of the process to pick our nominee for President! We now go forward to support our nominee, Donald Trump, win back the White House, and protect Michigan’s Comeback!

On the bus ride home, our delegation stopped for a rest break, where we met 156 brave Michigan State Police troopers, who were also on their way home from the Convention. We expressed our sincerest gratitude for all they did to keep us safe in Cleveland!

I had the privilege of moderating a candidate forum upon my return to the great state of Michigan, right before our primary. Following the forum, I attended the Sanilac County Republican meeting and County Convention. It was also a great honor to attend the Focus on Life Dinner at the San Marino Club on Thursday, August 18.

I’d like to extend my congratulations to all of the amazing people who won their primary races and precinct delegate positions! I thank everyone for the time, talent, and work for our Republican Party! To those who weren’t successful in their primary, I still want to thank you for the sacrifices you made in an effort to better our state. I hope we can count on your continued efforts and support to help us stop Hillary this November.

This year is proof that Michigan matters greatly to Presidential Candidates. Since the Convention, we’ve seen our nominee, Donald Trump, here twice, including just this past Friday in Dimondale. Vice Presidential Candidate Mike Pence has also visited our great state twice since Convention. Let’s keep up the hard work so we can send these two strong leaders to the White House in November!

I was lucky enough to be in attendance for Presidential Candidate Donald Trump’s rally in Dimondale. The excitement and enthusiasm I’m seeing for our nominee is outstanding, and I know he’ll continue to make Michigan issues a focus of his campaign.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at our Convention in Grand Rapids next Friday and Saturday, August 26 and 27.

Thank you so much for all that you do to make the Michigan Republican Party the best statewide Republican Party in the country!

Best,
Kathy

July 14, 2016

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day celebrating the birth of the greatest nation in the world. What was created in 1776 still sets the example for free societies throughout the world. I’m so grateful to enjoy the freedoms and liberties that come with being an American, and I want to express my gratitude to all those who and continue to fight to protect these essential rights.

On the 4th of July, Dean and I had the privilege of attending the parade in Port Austin in Huron County. This was a great time, where I got to see our veterans lead the kickoff and the resounding ovation they received from the crowd. We are truly blessed to have such selfless individuals who are willing to put their lives on the line for our safety.

Since my last update, I also had the privilege of making my first trip to Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula as National Committeewoman (pictured below). I’d like to thank the Delta County Republican Party for inviting me and my sister who was visiting from South Carolina to their terrific event, and am so grateful for all of the hard work they do to elect Republicans.Berden

This week I have been at the RNC Summer Meeting in Cleveland prior to National Convention. We’re at an exciting part of the election cycle, and I’m happy we’ll soon have our official nominee.

I’m lucky enough to serve on the Standing Rules Committee for the RNC. During our most recent meeting, we voted not to change the rules for selecting our nominee. I hope the Convention Rules Committee follows the same path that we did.

I look forward to welcoming the rest of the Michigan Delegation to Cleveland on Saturday for what is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime convention.
As a member of the Michigan delegation, I am firmly standing behind our presumptive nominee Donald Trump. Republican voters across the country have spoken, and I respect their choice. Now is the time for our party to unify behind our nominee so we can defeat Hillary Clinton in November. With all of the hard work our volunteers have continued to put in, I know we have the ability to elect strong Republican leadership up and down the ballot and turn Michigan red this November!

Best,
Kathy

Saturday, July 9, was our most recent Day of Action. Volunteers and staff all across the state went out and knocked on more than 6,400 doors, engaging voters from all over Michigan.

This is an impressive sign of enthusiasm among our dedicated volunteers and staff, and I’d like to thank all of you who participated.

Our next Day of Action is coming up on Saturday, July 23. We’ll again be reaching out to voters to spread the message that Republicans are the ones with the solutions needed to protect Michigan’s Comeback.

We need your help to make sure this day is successful.

Please sign up on our website to let us know what you’re willing to do to help elect Republicans. Someone from our staff will reach out to you and answer any questions that you may have.

We also need volunteers to test our Elections Day Operations technology to make sure we’re prepared and ready for this crucial general election. When signing up on our website, please indicate if you are willing to work an EDO shift, and someone from our staff will contact you for further details about this important volunteer opportunity.

Attorney General Bill Schuette speaking at Convention
While many of you have had coffee poured by him at State Conventions before, we’ll get to see a little bit more of our On-Duty Attorney General in Cleveland. Bill Schuette will be one of the speakers on Monday during the National Convention. This is an exciting honor, and I’m looking forward to seeing one of our great Republican leaders in Michigan having the opportunity to speak on such a big stage.

For those not attending convention, please tune in to convention.gop to watch our Attorney General represent the great state we call home.

June 19, 2016

Hello everyone,

Tragedy has touched our nation in the form of a heinous attack by a cowardly gunman. The attack in Orlando took the lives of 49 citizens. This was a terrible tragedy for all Americans. My thoughts and prayers go out to their family, friends, and loved ones in the wake of this tragedy.

In the immediate aftermath, ISIS praised the gunman for his cowardly attack on innocent Americans. The President and the presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton should be focusing on defeating the threat posed by radical Islamic terrorism. Instead, they’re renewing calls for more unconstitutional gun control measures, all while more and more refugees are coming into our country without being thoroughly vetted.

This is unacceptable from people who want to lead our great nation, and needs to unite us in our mission of defeating Hillary Clinton and returning strong leadership to the White House in November.

Again, prayers for all the victims, their loved ones, and for our country’s leaders during these difficult and dangerous times.

hank ronna kathy linda jeff

It was great to see everyone at Pizza and Politics and the State Committee Meeting on June 3 and 4. These were terrific events, and I’m happy to see so much enthusiasm with our dedicated activists for November.

I’ve also attended the 9th Congressional District Meeting and the Taylor Republican Club Picnic. On June 14, I had the pleasure of celebrating both Flag Day and Donald Trump’s birthday at our presumptive nominee’s Saginaw headquarters.

The Sanilac County Republican Party monthly meeting on June 16 was a great event, and I’m happy I was able to attend. Thank you all for everything that you do to elect common-sense Republican leaders in Michigan.

I’m looking forward to visiting Escanaba next week to speak with the Delta County Republican Party!

Michigan’s delegation to Cleveland for National Convention in July are excited to be part of this truly historic election. There is a new website, platform.GOP where you can voice your ideas for updating our platform! Users can leave ideas and thoughts. This is a great opportunity for grassroots activists to have a chance to shape the Republican Party’s platform!

Cleveland has signs up welcoming all of us to Convention, and I’m excited for July. I will be attending the RNC summer meeting the week before our Convention and then will join the rest of our delegation as they arrive for convention week!

Today is Father’s Day, and we should all thank our great Dads for the many gifts of dedication, strength, courage, sympathy, and encouragement that they gave us!

Best,
Kathy

Michigan Excellence in Public Service Series taking applications for 2016-17 program

I would encourage any Republican women looking to run for elected office to sign up for the terrific programs offered by the Michigan Excellence in Public Service Series (MEPSS) for 2016 and 2017. MEPSS is a fantastic group that helps Republican women running for office learn more about running a campaign so they know what to expect when the time comes.

The application deadline for the 2016-17 program is June 26. For more information, click here.

Supporting Patriot Week

The Michigan Republican Party is pleased to support Patriot Week and encourages you to become involved.

Patriot Week (9/11-9/17) renews America’s spirit by celebrating the first principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents, speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Responding to the commercialization or loss of meaning of traditional national holidays, Patriot Week invigorates American citizens’ appreciation and understanding of their nation’s spirit.

Anchored by the key dates of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17 (Constitution Day), Patriot Week develops themes and programming for each day during the week. Co-created in 2009 by Oakland County Judge Michael Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah, Patriot Week has captured the imagination and support of citizens across the nation with participants in over nine states.

As a non-partisan initiative, Patriot Week is an excellent means to educate yourself, students, and the general public about the key blessings of liberty, including, among other things:

• The First Principles of the rule of law, limited government, unalienable rights, equality (racial and gender), the Social Compact, and revolution;
• Key Patriots including Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, George Washington, James Madison, Patrick Henry, and Susan B. Anthony; and
• Key documents and speeches including the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Patrick Henry’s Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death! speech, and the 19th Amendment.

We encourage you to approach local schools, veterans organizations, community groups, your local political parties, and others to get involved. As a grassroots effort, it can be as simple as guest speakers and picnics, to as involved as essay contests, 9/11 commemorations, festivals and parades. Also, many cities and counties have not yet officially recognized the week, and we encourage you to ask your local governments to join the effort. For more information, visit patriotweek.org.

May 22, 2016

Hello everyone,

I would like to, once again, extend my congratulations to the Michigan Republican Party for the excellent convention in April. It was a fantastic event, and I’m so grateful for all of the dedicated staff, volunteers, and activists who made it possible. After the convention, I attended the Republican National Committee meeting in Hollywood, Florida from April 19 to 22.

While at the RNC meeting, I gave a Michigan update at the regional breakfast, covering a number of items, including our latest convention, our races and delegate selection to the National Convention in Cleveland, and how we are ramping up our field program in preparation for November.
During a number of the meetings I attended while in Florida, the theme that continued to come up was Party unity. We have to be united to win in November.

Additionally, the Standing Committee on Rules made no changes, and will send a package to be submitted to the Convention Rules Committee for consideration at the 2016 Convention in Cleveland. I also had the privilege of attending the Committee on Arrangements meeting, where there was much discussion regarding National Convention.

The most memorable moment was at our last dinner, where we had the chance to listen to two American heroes, Oz and Tig, the co-authors of 13 hours – the story of Benghazi, share their story with us. It was incredible, absolutely captivating, and brought tears to the eyes of many of us listening to their brave story.

I arrived home to attend the Sanilac Country Lincoln Day Dinner and have attended many events since then. On April 27, I was in attendance for the St. Claire Country Lincoln Day Dinner and was a guest speaker at both the Bay County Lincoln Day Dinner on April 27 and the Cheboygan Lincoln Day Dinner on the 30.

LDDIn May, I attended the Ionia Lincoln Day Dinner’s Ladies panel on May 6 (pictured below), and spoke on May 7 at the Claire County Lincoln Day Breakfast. On May 13 I attended the Branch County Lincoln Day Dinner, and on May 17 I went to the Eastside Grosse Point GOP. And finally, to conclude the month, on May 25, I had the pleasure of attending the Tuscola/Huron Lincoln Day Dinner.

Now that we have a presumptive nominee for our Party, I pray we will all consolidate and go forward to defeat Hillary Clinton! I hope everyone had a very Happy Mother’s Day, and I want to again thank all the wonderful work by volunteers and staff that makes the Michigan Republican Party an excellent organization to be a part of.

Best,
Kathy

Hello everyone,

First off, congratulations to the Michigan Republican Party and our Chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel, for a well-run convention this past weekend! I know there was a lot of time and energy put into this event, and everything went very smoothly!

I am so grateful to all who supported my re-election campaign. I will always remember all of the kindness, advice, and encouragement given to me during the last 11 months I’ve served as Michigan’s Republican National Committeewoman.

Next week, I will be in attendance at the April RNC meeting, where I sit on the rules committee. I will continue to represent Michigan with a positive voice in strong support of our conservative platform, and will work to ensure that we have an open, transparent, and steady process.

I’d also like to extend a hearty congratulation to RNC Committeeman-elect Dr. Rob Steele, who starts his term after our National Convention this July! I’m looking forward to getting to work with you to elect Republicans all across this great state.

Congratulations to all those who were elected to represent Michigan at the National Convention in Cleveland this July! This election is vital to our country’s future, and it is so important we work as a team and support our eventual nominee.

In addition to our convention, I was also honored to be able to attend the 100th Anniversary of the Sanilac County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 12. This was a great event that celebrates some of the great history of our state.

This Saturday, April 16, I had the privilege of attending the Gladwin County Lincoln Day Dinner.

From April 19 through 22 I will be at the Republican National Committee Spring Meeting, providing Michiganders with a strong, conservative voice.

On Saturday, April 23, I’ll be at the Sanilac County Lincoln Day Dinner. These events are a great way to keep in touch with local parties and activists throughout the state. This event is part of a Listening Tour our Chairman is taking through the 9th and 10th Congressional Districts. Additional stops will be at the Macomb County Field office, 13441 Hall Road in Utica, and in St. Clair County, 1630 Stone St. in Port Huron. The Macomb County stop begins at 9:00 am and the St. Clair County event starts at 2:30 pm.

I’ll also be at the St. Clair County Lincoln Day Dinner on Wednesday, April 27, the Bay County Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday, April 28, as well as the Cheboygan County Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday, April 30.

Thank you all again for your fantastic work and for making the Michigan Republican Party such a terrific group to represent.

More Republican Candidates visit Michigan

This seems to be a running theme in my newsletters, but one I’m very happy about. Since my last update, Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Governor John Kasich made a two-day stop in Michigan. He spread his positive message and discussed his vision for the future of our great nation.

Kasich in MI

Republican candidates spending all of this time and energy in Michigan is a clear sign of the importance of our state, both in the primary and the general election. Michiganders always knew Michigan Matters, but we are now seeing the Presidential candidates recognizing this too!

Happy New Year to all!

My last update was just before Christmas and here it is 2016 and almost two weeks before the Iowa Caucuses!

I attended the 4th District Round Up in Clare on January 8th and 9th.

This was a great event starting with dinner on Friday night, and on Saturday, we had a wonderful lineup of speakers, featuring our Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel and legislators giving updates and taking questions – along with an opportunity for candidates running for office to introduce themselves.

Congratulations to District Chairwoman, Judy Rapanos, and her committee for a job well done!
Judy Rapanos

From January 12 – 15, I attended the RNC meeting in Charleston, SC.

Each day was filled with meetings and on Thursday, we traveled to the Charleston Coliseum to watch the Presidential Primary Debates. It was very exciting to be in the audience and hear the people’s reactions.

All of the candidates did very well!

On Thursday, January 21, I am attending the 12th District’s event with Kris Paronto, one of the subjects of the new movie 13 Hours.

There is a lot to look forward to as we go towards the 2016 Elections!

Thank you all for the time, talent, and treasure you give. I am proud to be a fellow volunteer!

More Republican Candidates Visit Michigan

Since my last newsletter, two Presidential candidates have made their way to Michigan, and the differences in their events were stark.

Businessman Donald Trump spoke to a sold-out crowd at the DeltaPlex near Grand Rapids. The enthusiastic and lively crowd of thousands listened to Mr. Trump as he discussed his ideas to bring jobs back to our country and protect our nation’s security.
Trump Rally
In contrast, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton made a quiet trip to Michigan, hosting a private event with pop-singer Michael Bolton. Her event was so exclusive, it required a donation to her campaign before you could find out where it was.

This kind of dismissive attitude toward Michigan voters is par for the course for Hillary Clinton, as she is only interested in campaign donations and not the needs and concerns of Michiganders. Thankfully, some dedicated volunteers and activists braved the elements to show that Michigan voices matter and need to be heard by Presidential candidates.

The MIGOP also reached out to Michiganders to find out how they felt about Hillary coming into town for an exclusive and expensive event. They weren’t exactly pleased about a Presidential candidate doing her best to avoid meeting with voters. Use the image below or check out the MIGOP YouTube page to view the video.

More Republican Candidates Visit Michigan

Republican Presidential candidates continue to make the trek to the Mitten state, proving that Michigan matters in 2016. So far this cycle, our candidates have made 26 appearances here, in stark contrast to the three visits from their Democratic counterparts.
presidential visits
On Wednesday, Dec. 9, Dr. Ben Carson returned to his home state, where he outlined his health care proposals to undo the damage of Obamacare. Dr. Carson also visited his alma mater, the University of Michigan Medical School. His town hall was once again well-attended by a truly enthusiastic crowd.

Sen. Marco Rubio from Florida was also in Michigan on Dec. 9, hosting a town hall in an airplane hangar at the Oakland County Airport (picture below). A lively crowd showed up to listen to Sen. Rubio talk about his plans to fight terrorism and make our country safer.

Catching up

As I continue to travel our state, I’m seeing a lot of enthusiasm for all our Presidential candidates and candidates for state offices. One constant I’m hearing is that our candidates are leaps and bounds ahead of those running on the Democratic side.

Recently, Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel had another great listening tour, this time in West Michigan, where the Chairman had the chance to hear from the dedicated volunteers and grassroots activists. I’m so proud of all our volunteers and grassroots activists who continue to put in the hard work needed to elect Republicans in Michigan; we truly appreciate your ideas and enthusiasm.

Together, we know we can help put a Republican in the White House who will undo all of damage being done by the current administration. I truly appreciate and want to express my gratitude for all of the tremendous work being done by our membership and volunteers. The time, energy and commitment you’ve shown to spreading the Republican message and getting Republicans elected all across Michigan is amazing, and I’m honored to be a part of such a great team!

I’d also like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!

Congratulations to Congresswoman Candice Miller

I’d like to extend a heartfelt congratulation to Candice Miller, our Congresswoman from the 10th District, for her recent induction into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame. As she finishes her last term in Congress, it’s great to see her being honored for all she’s done for Michigan residents over the course of her illustrious career.

Congresswoman Miller is a shining example of what a great public servant. From her time as a Harrison Township Trustee, to her service as Secretary of State and in Congress, Miller has been a strong advocate for the interests of Michigan and Macomb County residents. She has set an example we should all follow, and is owed a huge debt of gratitude for everything she has done to make our state a better place.

Second Anniversary of the Detroit Field office

In a continued effort to reach out to voters who haven’t traditionally supported Republicans and to share the Republican message with them, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and our Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel celebrated the second anniversary of our Detroit field office.

The event, featuring a roundtable with local community leaders, discussed issues facing Detroit residents, as well as the continued efforts by the Republican Party to reach out to Detroiters. I’d also like to thank Wayne Bradley our Director of African-American Engagement in Michigan and Gina Barr who serves as a field director out of the Detroit office.

Local field directors and volunteers were out in force, with more than 200 one-on-one meetings, nearly 20 house parties and 15 debate watch parties for the third GOP debate taking place. I had the privilege of attending one in Mt. Pleasant for the third debate and one in Bay County (pictured below) for the fourth debate.

Additionally, through three sessions for the Republican Leadership Initiative (RLI), we’ve had 34 fellows go through the training. The RLI program will allow our most dedicated grassroots activists to work with other committed volunteers and activists to build the best relationships with their communities and help us elect a Republican President next year!

With both full-time and part-time opportunities, the RNC is looking to recruit individuals in every community in every state to apply for the six-week fellowship training. Click here to submit your application. You can also encourage other outstanding Republicans to apply by sharing this page.

Catching up from Mackinac and all over the state

KathyBerdenMRLC1From September 18-20, I attended the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. Our chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel, put together a great event with record-setting attendance, excellent panels, and five great keynote speakers.

We had a state committee meeting to start the weekend, followed by a welcome reception hosted by our 1st District with Governor Rick Snyder. There were eight illuminating panels and many receptions. For one of the receptions, the “Pink Elephants taking over the Island,” I was happy to be one of the sponsors. This was a great event for the Republican women in Michigan. Our Chairman’s reception honored Michigan’s elected Republican women and was co-hosted by the Republican’s Women’s Federation of Michigan.

In addition to the great networking opportunities, we also celebrated distinguished leaders. My congresswomen, Candice Miller, was honored for her many years of service and presented with an art piece of our Great Lakes. The venue was filled with the excitement and I congratulate our MRP leadership on all their work for this event!

BerdenFarmingtonHillsIn addition to attending the MRLC, I participated in the following events:

Monday, September 21, 2015 – Brutus, MI – Guest Speaker @ Emmet County Republicans

Wednesday, September 23, 2015 – Cass City, MI -Attended Tuscola GOP Picnic

Thursday, September 24, 2015 – Rochester, MI – Guest Speaker @ Rochester Area GOP

Welcome Joan Larsen, our newest Michigan Supreme Court Justice

I’d like to congratulate Joan Larsen on her appointment to the Michigan Supreme Court. Larsen, who was appJoanLarsonHeaderointed by Governor Rick Snyder at the end of September, has served as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and as a Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General in the Justice Department under President George W. Bush. Her experience with public service and as a professor at the University of Michigan Law School make her a strong choice, and I’m certain she will be another rule-of-law voice on Michigan’s highest court.

Her appointment came on the heels of the retirement announcement by current Justice Mary Beth Kelly. I’d like to thank Justice Kelly for her great public service to the people of Michigan, and wish her well in her future endeavors.

Hillary continues to avoid Michigan voters

BillClintonProtestHillary Clinton continues to prove that Michigan money is all that matters to her and her campaign.  She is out of touch with Michigan voters.

The Clinton campaign once again hosted an exclusive, private fundraiser in Michigan. This time, however, the candidate couldn’t even be bothered to attend. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, came in her place.

Thankfully, a dedicated group of volunteers showed up to remind the campaign and the media that Michigan Matters in 2016.

Republican Candidates continue to show Michigan Matters

In stark contrast to what we’re seeing from the Democratic presidential candidates, Republicans continue to come to Michigan because they know our voices and our votes matter.

CarsonMIEvent

Native Michigander Dr. Ben Carson was the first Republican candidate to make a trip to our state after the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. He visited Spring Arbor University and spoke to a crowd of more than 3,000 voters.

Senator Ted Cruz was in Kalamazoo on Oct. 5, hosting a town hall at Wings Stadium to share his vision and talk with Michigan voters.

Ohio Governor John Kasich visited Lacks Enterprises in Grand Rapids on Oct. 12 to meet with workers at the manufacturing facility to talk about his ideas for the future and to answer questions.

Remembering 9/11, Remembering Benghazi
It’s hard to believe it’s been 14 years since the tragic terrorist attacks on American soil on September 11, 2001. We all remember where we were that day and the pain we felt. As we remember the lives of our fellow citizens we lost that day, it is also important to remember how lucky we are as Americans to live in a country where we have the freedom to speak our minds and to organize around causes we believe in.

On September 11, we also remembered another national tragedy. In 2012, radical Islamic terrorists in Benghazi, Libya attacked an American diplomatic mission killing our US diplomats. Republicans in Congress have been working diligently to uncover the security failures of this tragic event. Let us continue, as the Republican Party, to stand up as the party of strong defense, both at home and abroad.

Catching up
Fall is in the air, the kids are back to school, and harvest time will soon be here! And, in just over 14 months, we will elect a Republican as the next President of the United States. Since my last update, I’ve been on the road meeting with Republicans all around our state. Here’s a few of my stops in the past month:
August 10 – 10th District Executive Committee Meeting
August 18 – Sanilac County Commissioners meeting
August 20 – Meet & Greet Breakfast with Senator Marco Rubio
August 20– Guest Speaker at the Lapeer County GOP
August 25 – Republican Booth at the Sanilac County Fair
August 26– Guest Speaker in St. Clair County
August 28 – Keynote Speaker for the 35th Senate District Round Up in Benzie County

September 21 – Spoke at the Emmet County Republican Party in Brutus

Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference
I was honored to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the Friday Night dinner and to be one of the volunteers to receive the Number One Republican awards on Saturday morning.

I was also proud to see my Congresswoman, Candice Miller, acknowledged for her many years of excellent service and presented an award from our Chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel.

Our Chairman and her team are to be congratulated on a wonderful weekend!

Upcoming Events around the State
September 24 – Mecosta County GOP Austin Blair Dinner
September 25 – 9th Congressional District Detroit Tigers Game
September 26 – Wayne County Republican Picnic
September 30 – Eastside Republican Club Banquet
October 8 – Livingston County GOP Reagan Day Dinner

Congressman Benishek not Seeking Re-Election
Congressman Dr. Dan Benishek announced on September 15 that he would not be seeking re-election for the First Congressional District in 2016. I’d like to echo the words of MRP Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel and thank the Congressman for his service to the people of northern Michigan and his leadership on important issues facing our nation. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

President Obama in Macomb County
President Barack Obama paid a visit to Macomb Community College on September 9 to discuss his economic agenda. The President’s failed economic policies of higher taxes, excessive spending, and onerous regulation is no way to grow the economy and create jobs for Americans eager to work and prosper in this country. Perhaps he could learn a lesson from Michigan GOP leaders who created a blueprint for responsible government and job creation, earning Michigan it’s reputation as the “Comeback State.” Thankfully, many of our grassroots activists were there to deliver a message to the President.

RNC’s Data Driven Approach
I often hear from our grassroots activists about their concerns regarding the quality of data the party is using and how we continue to lag behind the Democrats in targeting voters. The staff at the RNC has been working hard to change this and to tap into some of the best minds in the technology sector to gain an advantage in data and micro targeting. Check out the latest feature in Forbes highlighting the reinvention of RNC Data Center.

Thank You!
Last month, I was elected as Michigan’s Republican National Committeewoman. I would like to thank all those who supported me for this important leadership position! I continue to be amazed by the time and dedication you—the grassroots—show to the Michigan Republican Party.

Former RNC Committeewoman, and current MRP Chairman, Ronna Romney McDaniel did a great job positioning our state for 2016 in this role, and I will continue to build off of her hard work.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me!

Immediately after being elected at Boyne Mountain, I attended the RNC Spring Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, where I spoke with several Presidential candidates and other state party chairs about what we can do to elect the next Republican President. The energy of these leaders from across the country was invigorating. We will continue to exchange ideas and strategies at the next RNC meeting this August in Cleveland, Ohio.

I am already attending local party meetings and events around the state—recently I was at the Tuscola County GOP meeting and the Livingston County Lincoln Day Dinner featuring Sen. Ted Cruz. Going forward, I am excited to meet with grassroots activists across the state and work with candidates and volunteers to build our party. With your help, I hope to show the rest of the country just how important Michigan will be in the 2016 election.

31st Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference
The 31st Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference will take place September 18-20, 2015 at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The Conference will feature local, statewide, and national speakers who will focus on the successes of Michigan as well as the future of our state and country.
